Britain’s Couture Cake House

By Request Cakes & Couture Commissions

Some cakes are ordered. Others are commissioned.

Some Cakes Begin With a Conversation

Not every cake belongs in a catalogue.

At Mooies, a small number of our works are created by request — not to create distance, but to preserve intention. These cakes are shaped through dialogue, context, and craft rather than configuration.

They are designed for moments that require a more considered approach.

Why Certain Cakes Are By Request

Some designs demand more than selection.

They may involve:

  • Extended hand-finishing

  • Structural or architectural complexity

  • Sculptural or Lambeth-style detailing

  • Large-format scale or unusual proportions

  • Integration with fine art prints or editions

  • Absolute control over timing, placement, and delivery

In these cases, a fixed product page would limit the work rather than support it.

A by-request process allows the cake to be resolved properly — responding to the occasion rather than adapting an existing format.

What Falls Under Couture Commissions

By-request works may include:

  • Lambeth-style celebration cakes

  • Number and sculptural cakes

  • Large-format or architectural designs

  • Couture finishes requiring extended handwork

  • Cakes paired with signed or numbered fine art prints

  • Private brand, editorial, or cultural commissions

Each commission is treated individually.
No two works are ever approached in the same way.

The Commission Process

By-request cakes begin with context, not specifications.

Rather than selecting options, clients are guided through a brief exchange — often via our concierge — to understand:

  • The occasion and setting

  • Scale and intent

  • Aesthetic direction

  • Practical considerations

From there, the work is shaped quietly and deliberately within the Mooies atelier.

Availability is intentionally limited to ensure focus, quality, and discretion.

Cakes, Art, and Editions

Some couture commissions extend beyond celebration into collectable or archival works.

In these cases, cakes may be paired with fine art elements — including signed or numbered prints — as part of a complete creative expression.

When cake and art are combined, each retains its integrity.
They are conceived as a single work, not as add-ons.

Availability of such commissions is limited and considered carefully.

An Invitation

By-request cakes are not ordered.
They are discussed.

If your occasion calls for something more considered — or if you are enquiring on behalf of a private client, venue, or brand — we invite you to begin a conversation with our concierge.
