The Brief

A private client ordered a birthday cake for a friend studying at Trinity College, to be hand-delivered to his room in the Wolfson building — with instructions to track him down and hand it over in person, since student accommodation doesn't come with a straightforward drop-off point.

Our Creation

Mooies prepared a Matcha Chiffon Cake — light, distinctive, and a world away from a traditional birthday sponge — finished with a hand-piped chocolate birthday message and a Belgian dark chocolate round.

Delivery & Set-Up

What should have been a quick drop at a dorm turned into a near 45-minute search through Cambridge's cobbled streets and college passageways — past a permanently closed bookshop, directly opposite Newton's apple tree, through more twists and turns than seemed reasonable for one building. Mooies didn't leave until the cake was handed to the birthday boy himself.

Why It Matters

Finding one student's room inside a 500-year-old college turned into asking everyone who'd talk to us — security on the gate, faculty passing through, porters, anyone who might know the way — until someone finally pointed us toward the right passageway. That's the kind of persistence a single birthday cake doesn't usually get, but it's exactly what Mooies gives every delivery regardless of scale: a private client's forgotten-about dorm as seriously as a headline commission. Cambridge University itself was never the client here — the moment was personal, between one friend and another — but the lengths gone to are the same lengths a name-brand booking would get.
