Yes. Mooies supplied New York Cheesecakes on several occasions to the production of Netflix's Jay Kelly. They were used on set for the interior scenes featuring cheesecake, filmed at Shepperton Studios in the UK.

What's the difference between New York cheesecake and Basque cheesecake?

A New York cheesecake is baked gently on a biscuit base, giving a dense, smooth filling and a pale golden top. A Basque cheesecake has no base and is baked at a high temperature, creating a dark, caramelised crust and a soft, almost molten centre. We make both.

Is it a baked cheesecake?

Yes. Like every authentic New York cheesecake, ours is baked, which gives it its signature dense, creamy texture. It is not a no-bake or set cheesecake.

What base do you use?

A buttery shortbread biscuit base. American New York cheesecakes traditionally use a graham cracker crust, and shortbread gives a richer, crisper contrast to the creamy filling.

Does it taste of lemon?

Only subtly. A whisper of lemon zest lifts the richness of the cream cheese without making it a lemon cheesecake.

Mooies’ New York Cheesecakes were supplied on several occasions to the production of Netflix’s Jay Kelly, and used on set for the interior scenes featuring cheesecake, filmed at Shepperton Studios in the UK. Each cake was prepared and sliced to the production’s requirements, ready for filming.

Off camera, the cheesecake was a favourite with the production team. One member of the cast told us it tasted just like the New York cheesecake from home, which we take as the highest compliment.
